The Artist Behind The Work

With more than two decades of experience as a painter, sculptor, and video artist, Fatma Al Shebani is widely considered a pioneering contemporary artist in Qatar and the Gulf region. Her paintings are coveted and acquired by top collectors and institutions.

Al Shebani draws inspiration from her surrounding environment and its history. She believes that new approaches to visual art can change the way we see and think, not only within the realms of aesthetics but in the sphere of teaching, technology, climate change, and social relationships.

Al Shebani found herself in freedom in Art and she felt drawn to abstraction and began to experiment with painting, printing, computer-based kinetic art, video art, and conceptual art.

Interest in Al Shebani’s work has grown significantly over the past 15 years, both regionally and internationally. Her work expands the concept of modern artwork, combining traditional geometries and contemporary mediums. Through international exhibitions, Al Shebani hopes to introduce new ideas and aesthetics to Western and non-Western audiences.

In addition to her prolific career as an artist, she is heralded as an innovative thinker, educator, activist, and poet.
